I have a mix of win2K and XP machines and a Domain Controller for Active Directory Domain ( Windows 2003 server, Dell machine with 1TB). I’m able to mount shares on win2K and XP client machines fine. However my music collection is on the Dell server. I can see the share on that server and it shows up in the share list as server1/music, however when I select it I get an error – bad username/password. On the client win2k and XP machines I had to create local accounts to be able to get in, the Domain type of accounts did not work. I don’t think I can create such an account on the server and I don’t know how to “share” the file that I have mounted from the server to a client machine, for example, I have access on the client machine to server1/music but how do I make it visible to HD1000? I would really appreciate help from all you experts out there.

To access shares on Domain member servers, the client machine have to be a member in the same domain. You also have to log on to the client machine with a domain account.

To make your media visible to HD1000 you need to install a media server like Windows media connect or similair.

I would like to clarify – HD1000 can operate with the XP and win2K machines just fine. I have a share set up and HD can see it. The issue I have is that my music/photos are on a server and I can’t login directly into the server since it does not support local account and HD does not connect with domain type of account, it was confirmed with the XP machine. The XP machine mounts the share from the server and the XP machine has access to all the files there. However, I cannot make this mounted file a “share” type so that HD can see it. I end up copying some files locally into the XP machine and then HD can see it. How can I make the files on the server visible on HD via the XP machine?

The Photobridge can communicate with UPnP "server" software. So if those applications act like UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) servers you'd be able to see the files from apps like Mplay, etc.
