How to change back from Static to DHCP IP Addresses

Fri Jan 20, 2006 7:04 am

I followed the instrutions to configure my PB to Static IP.
I then went to revert back to DHCP.
To do so, I deleted the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
ran "sync" and then rebooted
Now the PB will not see the network at all.....

I realize that I probably should have simply editted the ifcfg-eth0 file and not delete it.

Can anybody tell me what this file should contain.

I will write a script to update it and put it on a SD card, where i can then run it.

Thanks in advance

easy route may be to install firmware update again on CF.

definitely shouldn't have nuked the script. make .orig backup when you change, then copy it back if you wish to revert.

ifcfg-eth0
DEVICE=eth0
ONBOOT=yes
BOOTPROTO=dhcp

Thanks,
I had resulted in reinstaling firmware (2.0.36) again.

I think I have reconfigured everything to how it was before.
i.e.
I have selected vidio resolution 15 (PAL: 1040i)
I have reinstalled flac/alac/wma codecs
I have reconnected my shares
My swap and all my apps on my CF seam to be reconnecting properly
I have reenabled the fnordy webserver

However when I run MPlay it stutters like it did before upgraded to 2.0.36 and set the resolution!!!!!!

Any ideas?

Is this the issue with the -FixTS command line option?

Check this one...

No, I am still using MPlayDVD which has this flag in it.
I have just unmounted my swap, deleted it and recreated it again.
I hioe that this has fixed the issue

I think that was timh's point. The FixTS flag can cause problems (severe pixelation and stuttering) with some video files, so if you're seeing that, you may want to give the non-FixTS version a try to see if it's any better.

Hmm,
I got zapped with spyware the otherday, and so had to clean my PC.
I put a decent firewall and other security software on my PC.
I am hypothesising that this may have reduced my network throughput
I think that this maybe causing my problems with streaming DVD

I am looking to either wireup or get a faster wireless ethernet adapter!

I tested transfering a file to my Roku over the samba link and got a time of 7.41s for a 10000000 chr long text file
Correct me if i am wrong but is that not a transfer rate of 10.79 MBps

Thats quite slow. Mind you i am using a wireless network.

So I tried mounting via NFS as apposed to samba

I got a time of 4.49s
Using the same algorythm i uesed last time thats a transfer rate of 17.81 MBps

Now I can steam DVDs without any problems.

What I dont understand is that the wireless network is obviously capable of handling this higher transfer rate, and I am sure that if I had a wired network that samba would transfer at a higher rate, so why is it that a wireless samba connection is so slow?

B does not mean 11Mb/s transfer rates, nor does G mean 54Mb/s. Or even close to it.

Samba on the roku is slow, normally it shouldn't give so much up to nfs. 25Mb/s seems to be the top end, maybe as high as 30. But NFS is at 60.

your math seems off - I get 1.28MB/s and 2.12MB/s. The relative difference seems about right - just better than double.
