OK I'm in new territory with my TV.Some of the stores showed it on sale so I googled it and found a website that had it several hundred dollars cheaper with free shipping.It's the Sony XBR65X850E.Yep it's a smart TV but most of the apps I use the most are on my Roku4.Yep it has Netflix,Prime,and Vudu but for some reason the Google Play Store didn't impress me that much.The picture quality is awesome with Netflix and Prime 4K movies and shows.In the Roku settings in display it has auto detect akong with 4K30Hz,4K60Hz,4K(10 Bit) 30Hz,and 4K(10 Bit) 60Hz.I went with the latter and have no problems with the picture set at 10 Bit 60Hz..Don't use a complicated surround system just a Vizio Sound Stand 2.1.(Optical out)Never had a purple screen or cracking noise at start of a movie or voice out of sync with any show or movie.I just don't grasp what the four different settings in the display mean.Yep the TV has HDR listed just need in simple terms how the four settings differ.BTW the owners manual was bare bones so I had to call their help line to get it off of antenna to cable.The main settings was in the play store at the very bottom. 

The 10bit settings are for HDR so you have 4k30hz (no HDR),  4k60hz (no HDR), 4k30hz 10bit (HDR) and 4k 60hz 10 bit (HDR)

When you switched from 1080P to 4K, did you notice a big improvement?  I haven't switched and I'm skeptical.

Sure did when I chose 4K and HDR content.Planet Earth is the wow factor.Glad I have the bandwidth to enjoy my Roku Ultra and 2nd generation of FireTV.Have the Roku wired and FireTV wireless.Strange thing is when I check the speed using Netflix the Ultra maxes out at 75 and the FireTV shows the full 100 Mbps.

For whatever reason, no Roku player ever seems to report accurate internet speeds. With any of mine, Netflix always reports far lower than my actual speed that I can read directly on my DSL modem display. When we still had the functional Speedtest channel, it too was always crazy low. But I've enabled the geek info on YouTube and streamed some 4K material, and seen bitstream speeds approaching my actual DSL speed, so I know the Roku is doing fine. In addition, I can stream UHD movie rips from my server and monitor the network stream from my server. I've seen steady streams of over 60 Mbps, and peaks of about 115 Mbps, so maxing out the Ethernet connection on the Roku. For some reason, my 5 GHz wireless is slower than hard wired, so I don't bother with it.

I was going to tell you that wireless data rates can't get as high as wired ethernet, but I was surprised to read that the 5GHz data rate could theoretically get as high as 1.73 Gbps.  Holy cow.  However, my experience with wireless is that you never get very close to the theoretical, so it doesn't surprise me that your wired is better.

The living room TV is in a direct line of sight with the cable modem/router sitting on top of the computer desk and my 5GHZ is the same speed as wired believe it or not.Just happen to have an ethernet(cat6) from five years ago and since the ultra is what I use the most of the time I connected the cat6 cable to it.

Since all Roku players only have Fast Ethernet ports (100 Mbps), wireless can easily exceed those speeds. Even on 2.4 GHz, 802.11n can reach 300 Mbps. But yes, 802.11ac can stream extremely fast. I just upgraded one of my WAPs with Tomato firmware, and even .11n exceeds my wired speeds. But I don't have a .11ac router, so haven't played with that protocol yet.

Ethernet from what we experienced is much better for streaming. When we went from WiFi only to a Cat 6 Gigabit hard wired connection, this made a very big difference over all. Buffering on our Roku is now pretty much gone.
