Wow

Tell me again why a new user should be allowed to create a thousand new threads.

So 5 pages (and counting) of your support forum can be the playground of Chicken Scratch, Super Hot Dog, Forum Spam Company.

It makes perfect sense to me.

They've already broken the security that limits new user posting.   I've spoken with IT about it and they said they're looking into it.

I get it, Roku Shawn S. needs his weekends off from moderating the board, but can't they have someone ELSE moderate the board on weekends? Seriously, pay some college kid $100 a day to keep the boards clean of spam.. heck, I'd even volunteer my time for free just to keep my eyes out for pages and pages of Chinese lettering..
Yeah, I got some Rokus.

Entire forum spammed!

Mon Oct 29, 2018 5:53 am

There has to be some way to prevent this. Every morning I come in here and there are 4-5 SPAM posts, but today I went in 16 pages deep and nothing but Chinese SPAM as far as I could see. Maybe restrict new users from posting for 5 days after signing up or something? This is ridiculous.

Now this morning I find 10 pages of spam postings, after I marked everything read last night before I went to bed. And now they're polluting the main forum, not just the off topic. Roku has GOT to get a handle on this. It's embarrassing. I've never seen any forum get spammed like this one!

I made it to 25 pages and gave up. I'll wait until Shawn cleans the site up and then come back. But they have really got to change their account creation method. The spammers have completely broken every security tool used to stop the bots.

They should just move their community support over to the Reddit subs.

Clearly, The Boss never visits Roku Forums.
If he did there'd be a whole bunch of new job opportunities at Roku Inc.

Roku Forums have become a laughing-stock.

This thread is currently on page 4 and there's only one other non-spam thread before it, not even going to bother seeing how many pages it goes.

edit - 20 spam comments just in the 10 minutes since I wrote this comment, so one every 30 seconds, that's some efficient spam.

I'm a moderator on another forum, and we've never encountered more than a few spam posts at a time, usually only a simple one or two. And we'll go days or even weeks without a single spam post. I don't know if it's the popularity of Roku that makes it a magnet, or if it's the forum software they use. I've volunteered to be a mod here, but never received a response.
