great beers

Thu Dec 01, 2011 10:10 pm

I'm doing a "Decembeer", 31 days, 31 beers, and want some suggestions from beer snobs out there.. I lean towards stouts and Scottish ales, but i'm open to anything unique.

Send those ideas my way please!
Yeah, I got some Rokus.

I don't know how snobbish you'll consider the recommendations :) , but:
Someone turned me on to the Samuel Smith Brewery a few years back, I like most of the brews I've tried from them:

and then there's Boddington's (I've only had the Pub Ale variety you can get in the states):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boddingtons
The Pub Ale is pale, but tastes very much like a Guinness Stout

You probably won't be able to get this locally, but whenever I went to visit my brother at Ithaca college the Ithaca Beer Company had a few different brews I liked (predominantly Nut Brown and Pale Ale)

Cool, I DID already buy a Samuel Smith stout, and I've had plenty of Boddington's in the past (tasty!).. I will try to get my hands on the Ithaca Nut Brown.

Around here in Wisconsin, our local favorites are Lakefront Brewery beers, New Glarus, Point Beer, and Capitol Brewing.. There's many others but Lakefront is my go-to for a microbrew. New Glarus ONLY sells in Wisconsin though (company policy), but their Spotted Cow is a light, tasty ale.
Yeah, I got some Rokus.

Founder's Brewing in Grand Rapids makes a good Scottish ale. It's called The Dirty Bastard. I can find it in Chicago, don't know about Wisconsin though.

Sprecher has a couple of beers I like too.

I'm a homer, and I love the Abita Brewing Co.'s selection, particularly Amber, a delicious, refreshing ale. Their Purple Haze, a decidedly raspberry-tinged brew, is also very popular.

I'd say you're in for quite an adventure no matter which beer you choose.

Have you tried Three Floyd's Robert The Bruce? Good Scottish Ale. How about Old Rasputin? A fantastic stout.

I almost banned you for that picture

I'm an afficionado, but that goes beyond the red line, so to speak.
