I want the budget as low as possible because all I want it to do is be a server. The WD Hub is actually a decent price but I can't help but think would it be cheaper if they stripped Netflix and such off of it. I've considered a R-Pi.
I've ordered one of these since I found an open box item on ebay for 40 dollars total. I hope it works decently but I figured if not having a Wireless USB hub could come in handy anway, or I'll sell it. http://www.ehomeupgrade.com/2009/09/17/ ... na-server/
People have complained about it's print sharing and such but I won't use it for that. Just as a NAS HD to manage the content and DLNA to play it. Hopefully Chaneru will like it for the Roku and they promise that the PS3 will find it. If that doesn't work well I'll have to rethink.
External versus internal doesn't really matter. Being able to add external is nice of course but external drives are cheap enough. I have a puny 320gb now that I plan on using short term. If I get serious and convert all my discs however that space may run out.
I've noticed that the PS3 and Roku like the same file types so I've made all my files as such. I don't need to transcode them, just let the Roku see them somehow and play them.
