News on PAL support

Wed Jun 15, 2005 7:23 pm

Hi to everyone that wishes for PAL support:

Just a quick note to say I've gotten PAL 720P@50Hz and PAL1080i@50Hz video modes working today and the playback of PAL videos is now skip-free using those modes!

When using the built-in player you'll have to manually switch output modes, but Marcelo3d has modified MPlay to automatically switch between NTSC and PAL, provided the proper command line parms are fed to it. After I release the next beta with this PAL support in it, you'll be able to give her a try.

I know how long you all have been waiting for PAL, so thank you for your patience - it's just around the corner.

Good news Don, I was about to ask if you had made any changes in this beta in respect to PAL, as the stuttering I was seeing all the time is MUCH better.!?

Will these changes also make 576i/50Hz over composite and S-Video skip-free..?

Couple questions.
I use the VGA output. I didn't see a VGA PAL option in your .34 release thread. Will that be an option for 720P?

Also, when setting the PAL option in Mplay, will I also need to set it up in the Roku? Or does the photobridge use the settings in Mplay?

I read this on the Mplay site.

-PALRes=nNEW!
Offer output resolution n as PAL option. n is the index in the Video Setup screen.

I wasn't sure if that meant that you also have to have it set in the Video Setup screen.

Then,
How can I have more than one Mplay app in the same share and tell which one is which? Can the icon/app be renamed to say PAL?
Thanks,

Jeff

jsjames,

First, you need to use the video setup to figure out what are the indices (numbers) of the modes you'd like to use. Use Video Placement to adjust the modes of interest. (select the mode, adjust, select mode, adjust).

Now, add -PALRes=x -NTSCRes=y to the MPlay.roku, where x and y are the resolutions of interest.

Finally, run MPlay, open the file you want to play that is not in your default format. While it is playing, hit [info][info]. Select the desired (NTSC/PAL)resolution from the Video Resolution menu option and select Done.

After this, MPlay will use the mode selected for that file.

Any news on this Don, PAL/50Hz video still skips using composite and component 576i (NTSC/60Hz plays fine)..?

Is thid part of 2.0.35 or am i supposed to make this change myself?
I have a realy bad visual stutter, but not an audio stutter, I thought it might be because i am running wireless, but all my test show about an 80Mbps rate (the router and bridge are very close!)
