Feature Request for Music Player

Fri Nov 11, 2005 9:12 am

I love my HD1000 however one of the major pet peeves of mine has been navigation in the music player application.

The beauty of the HD1000 is the folder navigation which is one of the reasons I abandon the audiotron. Also, I have an enourmous mp3 library (50,000+)..

However, I find it tiresome to have to wade through all the A's, B's, C's, D's just to get to the J's.

With Rev 2, I've seen improvements with backing out of directories and remembering prior position (thank you for that!!!)

Roku, can you use the left and right buttons to do accelerated navigation based on the first character of the directory.

Although I can use the up/down(volume) to scroll a page at a time it's still tedious to sift through screens & screens of a's, b's, c's, etc, etc.

When I had my audiotron, this was a feature I used all the time.
Although it was mentioned a long time ago this might be added, I'm making a plea for it again.

Also, is there a way to display the cover art as a JPEG instead of that wave visualization. I would much rather see a static cover art image.

If your PB is connected to an XP machine, you should consider upgrading your music (and photo) experience to UPnP and Windows Media Connect (V2). I can browse my music in the following ways;

by Album,
by All Music
by Artist
by Folders
by Genre
by Playlist

With these options and the "hold down the arrow button" trick, I can find quickly what I'm looking for.

Of course, how this works depends on how good your MP3's ID3 Tags are.

If interested, look through this thread...

These all sound like great ideas. I hope to see them in a future
firmware version.

Roku team, I hope you'll consider releasing the photo and music
applications as open source. This would let the community of
PhotoBridge developers add features to the core applications. I think
it would also be a great way to encourage new developers since they
would see how the main applications were written.

The risk to your business is low. The core applications are written
on the Cascade API (I hope!) and therefore won't work on any competing
system. Any modifications to the programs, even if they were open
source, would only work on the PhotoBridge.

And since the applications are not covered by an NDA with ATI (like
the core libraries for interacting with the video scaler), there are
no legal entanglements to hinder this move.

To reiterate, please consider releasing the core PB applications as
open source. There is almost no business risk involved, and the
payoff in terms of likely new feature additions, end-user
satisfaction, and expansion of the developer community is high.

I'm a linux/unix guy at heart.
I have a massive workstation, a smaller server and 2 kuroboxes that run 24x7. I do not see myself running a windows machine 24x7 just for the music archive.

If the PhotoBridge did DAAP I would be able to access them that way to...

Yet, the issue is rapid first character navigation of the selection choice.

In this case, I'm browsing folders.

The SoundBridge does it and it really helps me wade through the choices rapidly however, it barfs at the large library. (50,000+). This forces me to prune it to around 20,000.

Roku, this is a major hindrance to me. The SoundBridge just can not handle my vast library of music. So I have to either divide everything up amoung servers or use SMB and the photobridge via folders.

Please add 'first character rapid navigation' feature to the list.
please please please... (I requested it over a year ago when I migrated from the audiotron to the HD1000.)
