Firefly & Windows 7 64 bit: it suddenly disconnects

Tue Jul 13, 2010 12:27 pm

Hi everyone,

I'm Alejandro, from Argentina. I posted this problem with Firefly & Windows 7 in the Soundbridge General Setup section, and jjaf adviced me to post it here.

I have been using a Pinnacle Soundbridge M1001 (software 3.0.44) wirelessly (router: Linksys WRT150N) with Firefly svn-1696 for the last 3 years. Recently I upgraded my system from Windows XP SP2 to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits, and since then I'm not able to make it work properly. Windows 7 recognizes my SB, it starts working, but after a while (from 45 to 90 minutes) it suddenly stops and it becomes imposible to connect again. Moreover, even though Firefly is still working, SB can't see the music library. The only solution is to reboot my system, as stopping and starting Firefly only makes SB aware of the music library, but it still can't connect to it.

I had already had this issue last year (still with Windows XP), but I discovered it was because I had accidentally upgraded Bonjour to version 2.0. After installing the old Bonjour (version 1.0.12) everything turned back to normal. Now I still have Bonjour 1.0.12 installed in my new Windows 7 machine, but the problem reappeared.

I tried running Firefly and Bonjour in XP compatibility mode, but to no avail: Firefly wouldn't even start. I also tried with Bonjour 1.06 x64, but it didn't work too.

This is the Firefly log:

2010-07-10 21:09:01 (c0e1864e): Error writing to client socket: Se ha forzado la interrupción de una conexión existente por el host remoto.

Last phrase (in spanish) means: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. It seems to be Windows socket error 10054, but I can't figure out what is causing it.

I hope somebody can help me, as I love the SB, especially using it with VisualMR!

Thanks a lot,
Alejandro

Perhaps I should clarify my setup, so as to give some more clues to what is happening with my connection:
I have the Pinnacle SB M1001 wired to a Linksys WRT150N (with WEP security enabled) in my living room. My music library (served with Firefly svn-1696) is on my PC in another room, wirelessly connected with a Linksys WUSB300N network adapter.
As I said in my previous post, this config worked like a charm while using Windows XP, and started having troubles when upgrading to Windows 7. I can now confirm it automatically disconnects (always with the "Error writing to client socket: Se ha forzado la interrupción de una conexión existente por el host remoto." message in the Firefly log) after EXACTLY 80 minutes of streaming. I can also confirm that SB briefly shows the "Music library shut down" message when it disconnects. After this, Firefly service is still running in my host PC, but SB can't see my music library till I restart Firefly.
I have even installed Windows XP Mode in my new machine, but to no avail: the problem is still there.
I'm pretty sure there must be something in my wireless connection that is failing, but I can't figure out what it is. The only clue I have is, like I said in my previous post, that this same thing happened a while back when I still had XP installed, but I discovered it was due to Bonjour having been accidentally upgraded to release 2.0. At that time, installing Bonjour 1.02 once again resolved the problem, but I have already tried that now and it didn't work.

Is there any test I could do so as to discard some "might be" issues?

Hi - did you ever get a solution to this?

I have been getting a similar problem, although not quite so severe, for some time. I have recently changed my network setup, and it has become a lot worse, so I wanted to try and fix it. I also get log entries like this:
2015-05-19 14:34:08 (5672af2d): Session 0: Streaming file '04 Floyd Gets A Gig.m4a' to 192.168.0.140 (offset 0)
2015-05-19 14:34:09 (5672af2d): Write error: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.
2015-05-19 14:34:09 (5672af2d): Error copying file to remote...

although I don't always lose the stream when this happens, only sometimes, which does seem to be about 80 minutes after starting a stream.

Was interested if you ever got any clues about it.
