Real audio, please

Yes, please please please add real audio, or at least explain to us why it's not already in the package. Is it a technical limitation? Is it a licensing issue? What is special about the Acoustic Energy radio that allows it to stream Real Audio?

Ogg Vorbis support please.
Running firefly won't make audio streams work and supporting at least one streamable format with a freely available server/encoder component could make the SB much more interesting for audio distribution projects.

I have to re-iterate this request as well, now... I'm happily using Firefly to transcode my WMA lossless library for the SB and Radio now, but with Firefly now running on several NAS boxes including the new HP (but without the transcoding support), this is now the one thing that prevents me from "upgrading" to a nice small NAS box...

Now that Radio Paradise no longer has a 192k mp3 stream, we DESPERATELY need an alternative, AAC or OGG streaming, in hopes of having something better than 128k mp3. :|

WavPack

I'm going to join the fray and suggest WavPack.

- It's reasonably fast.
- It supports both lossless and lossy modes. This could solve the bandwidth issues for folks on slow/busy networks (or setups where the SoundBridge and server are both wireless). Transcode everything to WavPack; if the network is slow, transcode to lossy WavPack.
- It's open-source, it uses public-domain algorithms, and it's BSD licensed.

I figure that since anybody with Vorbis or FLAC audio in their library is able to transcode anyway (they have to serve it with Firefly), the best thing to do would be to shrink that transcoded stream down. WavPack probably gives you the most flexibility in that respect.

Apple lossless is probably the most immediately useful codec, as people with ALAC libraries may be serving with iTunes.

It's a thought, anyway.

EDIT: Vorbis radio would be nice, though... Although if firefly could provide some kind of vorbis->wavpack proxy service...

No DUH!! And no "Pretty please" either.

Get with it! It is design failure not to offer full featured ogg vorbis/flac support from inception.

On the other hand, very VERY cool device and it is super sweet that the RCP protocol is documented and available.

Don't screw it up by getting cozy with Apple.
Don't forgo open source desktops.
DO NOT support DRM of any kind natively.

Native FLAC & OGG Support

Hi, on-the-fly transcoding is not working for me. Because of this native support of OGG & FLAC is a must have. I will not buy another device without this. Will probably sell out of my Soundbridge at the next opportunity.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.... there are way too many internet radio stations that broadcast only in Real Audio format.... what's the reason this is not supported?? It's a HUGE limitation... please update the software!
