Minimum Internet Speed

Wed Oct 06, 2010 11:40 am

I'm confused on internet speed and what I would be able to do with the Roku HD and my present equipment. My internet download speed is only .54mbps (speakeasy test). I have a wireless connection here in the house and would like to be able to stream Netflix movies. Radio would be nice too. Don't need HD or SD for our TV. Would it be worth my money to invest in this. If a .54 mbps speed won't work, how much do I need. Thanks.

Is your connection really a half megabit? If true, that's not really going to be enough to do any sort of video streaming at a reasonable quality. Realistically, you should think about upgrading your internet service to at least 1.0 Mbps.

Netflix will work at .6 Mbps so I would say get a 1 Mbps or 1.5 Mbps connection. I would recommend at least 1.5 Mbps personally. I'm currently using a 1.5 Mbps connection until the 23rd of this month when AT&T gets 6 Mbps here. I set my roku to manually use .6 Mbps and Netflix and radio work fine most other channels will as well.
