I am attaching this reply onto this thread because it seemed to be the most accurate. I tried looking through several related threads but I cannot seem to find the answer I need. If this has already been posted and I missed it, please feel free to direct me elsewhere.
I acquired today 2nd-hand a Roku 2 XD box from a friend. It was working perfectly for him with an HDMI cable; he just wanted to upgrade. I have a Sony Trinitron non-digital TV (model # KV-32V26). After much playing around, I cannot seem to get the initial Roku menu to come up so that I can configure things; I just get a blank screen.
As I do not have an HDMI input, I am connecting with the RWY component cables (I am using the Roku A/V cable that plugs into the Roku box with 1 plug but then splits into the component RWY cables which then interfaces with my RWY component cable). I was using the cables with a DVD player, so I know the cables are not broken. I have tried plugging the RWY component cables into all 3 Video slots (2 on the back, 1 on the front) of the TV and have used the "TV/Video" button on the remote to cycle through and make sure that I'm on the correct setting. I know that the input slots work because I've connected up DVD players via those inputs before. I have tried unplugging the Roku, pressing the reset button for 15-30sec then plugging everything back in but that did not seem to help. I know that the problem is not my router because I'm writing this email on a computer that is using the wireless successfully.
Bizarrely, I feel like something is half-working in that if I have the Roku plugged into, say, "video 2" and then I switch to "Video 2" with the TV remote and then I press buttons on the Roku remote, I can hear a "doo-dunk" sound coming from the TV like one was making a menu choice but I do not see anything on the screen.
Any troubleshooting thoughts? I feel like there must be something stupid and small that I am missing.
Thanks in advance for any help!
